Phuentsholing

Most tourists entering Bhutan over land enter at the border town of Phuentsholing, from the nearby Indian town of Jaigaon.

The change in the degree of purity and organization as you cross the border is unbelievably visible. Places you can see are Kharbandi Gompa, built in 1967 by the Royal Grandmother; the monastery contains paintings on the life of Buddha and statues of Shubdrung Nawang Namgyal and Guru Rinpochey.
